When I started my healthy eating food journey over a year ago I was just trying to make healthy meals when I could. This is a recipe for failure!!! You need to know what your going to eat and when you will eat it. This is so important when you first start eating the right way. If you don't have a plan in motion things will always pop up and cause you to say "I'll try again tomorrow." We all know tomorrow comes and then we give up. Start today and don't give up!!!
To start off make a plan for the week. If a week feels overwhelming just make a plan for three days. Less than three days is not much of a plan. Remember you are in this for the long haul, not short term. Think about breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a snack. I normally only worry about one snack because snack two will always find its way in. Make snack two a whole fruit, veggie, or nuts. Snack one can be prepared, such as fruit bars, energy balls, nut mixes, maybe even hummus, or something with whole food ingredients. When planning your meals make sure to include as many nutrients as possible. If you need ideas check out my Instagram page Tasty.yet.Healthy (@tasty.yet.healthy) • Instagram photos and videos I always include the recipe I use. Include those GBOMBS everyday- Greens, Beans, Onions, Mushrooms, Berries, and Seeds.
Make large batches. I normally make more than enough for dinner so I have lunch ready to go for a day or two after. We are a family of 5. So, when preparing I try to think " who will eat this tomorrow." Sometimes I miss judge and I have the same lunch for myself for three days. But its one less thing I have to think about, and I know I'm eating great. Breakfast I normally only make enough for that day plus one more. I don't always like the same breakfast everyday. Also, fruits are my go to in the morning and not a lot is needed to prepare them. I might do a oatmeal, enough for two maybe three mornings and top with fresh fruit every morning. Another go to breakfast for me is pita with hummus and fresh fruit. https://www.instagram.com/p/CLIr9XeBlfk/ Most mornings I'm doing good walking out the door altogether, let alone worrying is my breakfast good for me. If you prep it before hand you will thank yourself later.
Salad toppings- I like to dice and chop lots of veggies in advance so I can have plenty of toppings on my salad. A salad is so much more than just lettuce with dressing. When you add pepper, tomatoes, onions, olives, beans, and any thing else, you are adding load of vitamins and minerals to your body that you need. Don't worry about how many calories you are consuming, just think about how every bite is good for you! (Don't forget to make your own dressing.)
So, definitely whether you are just starting a healthy journey or have been on one a while, food prepping will help you on your weight loss journey. Give it a try, and let me know how you do.
